Today marked the completion of a new McSolo site. Why does it look the same?
McSolo began life using the ExpressionEngine content management system. After three years of using EE for McSolo, this weekend I moved the site to a WordPress installation.
First, WordPress is very good. It’s an excellent way to create and manage a web site. Second, it’s free.
I decided to maintain the site’s look and feel from the original ExpressionEngine design. That’s why the site looks pretty much today as it did on Friday before the switch from EE to WP.
There are substantial differences between sites built with EE vs. those built with WP. EE is more complex and more capable. However, WP is very capable, faster, and has a wider array of bells and whistles.
I managed to make the switch from EE to WP thanks to Stupid Evil Bastard and his article, From ExpressionEngine To WordPress In 64 Easy Steps.
The transfer required exporting content from EE to a format that could be imported into WP. Once the content was imported, the new WP framework and theme needed to be customized to match the previous McSolo layout and design.
After that it was easy.
