Since somewhere near the turn of the century, all of Apple’s Mac OS X versions have been named after cats. Big cats. The first was Cheetah. It wasn’t as fast as the name implied.
Then, Puma, Jaguar, Panther, Leopard, Snow Leopard, now Lion; the king of the jungle.
What’s next? Brian Caulfield in Forbes:
There are a lot of other cats left. None of them are particularly intimidating though. The Eurasian Lynx can weigh as much as 66 pounds. Even less fearsome: the Eurasian Lynx’s North American cousin, the Bobcat; the Ocelot, the biggest of the dinky Leopardus genus; and Felix Catus, the domestic cat.
Sabre-tooth? Extinct. Cougar? Too many women are already cougars. Ocelot? Lynx?
I’m not much on predictions, but this one looks reasonable. Mac iOS. Say goodbye to Mac OS X.
