Integrating a new tool into my daily Mac routine is a time honored tradition. I try out a new app. If I don’t like it, I scrap it. If I like it, I keep it. If I really like it, I keep using it.
One tool that’s easy to integrate into your work flow is BetterSnapTool. This app lets you clean up app window clutter by organizing windows into quadrants or specific locations on the screen.
In other words, app windows can be snapped into place on the screen.
Most of us have Macs with larger screens than Macs of the past. Screen real estate hasn’t kept up with the growth in the number of applications we use each day, hence screen clutter grows.
Instead of app windows of all shapes and sizes scattered willy nilly (it’s an actual style) across the screen, BetterSnapTool satisfies your OCD urges by organizing windows and placing them in a neatly arranged manner.
Snapping a window to a particular corner is straightforward. BetterSnapTool resides in your Mac’s Menubar. Click to view the Preferences or Snap Areas. Each window can have six locations in General Settings (left and right and top and bottom corners).
Customizations abound, which makes BetterSnapTool a little more complex but more capable.
BetterSnapTool also features a pop up window which graphically describes where you can place an app’s window. From then on, that’s where it goes (click the image above for a detailed, pop up view of the preferences).
You can also set custom keyboard shortcuts to move and resize a window on the fly; right from the keyboard, sans the mouse pointer.
This is one of those very inexpensive Mac App Store apps that actually makes you more productive (once you’ve figured out the options and settings). Few MAS apps get nearly 700 five star reviews and NO one or two star reviews. Mac users who use BetterSnapTool love it.
