Every Mac user loves the Finder, right? Uh, not so fast. All of us use the Finder, but it’s missing a few features and functions that would help it become a more loved utility.
Add XtraFinder to your Mac and get half a dozen news functions for the price of free.
Tops on the list is Finder tabs. Safari has tabs. Many apps have tabs. Now the Finder can have tabs which give you a single window with multiple Finder windows wrapped inside.
Nearly as useful as tabs are the Dual Panel and Dual Window functions. Again, it’s more Finder in a smaller space.
XtraFinder also lets you sort folders and files with folders on top, and files below (instead of mixed together) in List or Column View).
Very useful is the Show Hidden Items function which reveals the invisible files lurking around in many Mac folders. There’s even an option to display files in the Finder as white text on a dark background.
In addition to displaying a Show Hidden Items option, XtraFinder also embeds a useful New File, Copy To…, Move To…, and a Refresh option.
These extra XtraFinder functions are embedded into the Finder toolbar. Simply click, and select the function you need. I would like to see a toggle function to display the User Library folder and a way to sort files via the Finder’s labels, but it’s hard to argue with the price tag.
