Free: Use Your Mac To Play The Song Naming Game Everyone Plays (iTunes or radio)

For more decades than I care to admit, my wife and I have played a game. While driving in the car and listening to the radio, or listening to iPhone or iPod connected to the car’s speakers, we try to guess the name of the song, the artists, and the year.

Be honest. You’ve played that game before, right?

Well, Mac users, there’s an official Name This Tune app for the Mac. And it’s free.

Think of Name This Tune as a test of your musical memory combined with your iTunes music library. You won’t even need to have iTunes running to use it.

Open Name This Tune and click the Start Test button. Name This Tune will play 10 seconds of music from a song chosen by random selection. Click on the drop-down menu to see five song names. One of the songs is the correct answer.

Name This Tune

Click on the answer and then click on the Enter button. If your answer is correct, you get points. If not, points are subtracted. Click on Next Song to continue the game.

While Name This Tune is fun, it’s not quite the same as listening to music on the radio or iPod while in the car. In that scenario, the first person to guess the song title gets points, and more points for artist, and year.

Name This Tune isn’t quite so elaborate, though two people can play, but must alternate. Nicely done and free.
