I love iTunes and have thousands of rock ‘n roll tracks to pump through a couple of health speakers and a powerful amplifier. But not while I’m working. Maybe I get into the music too much, but I find iTunes to be too distracting. What I really like is White Noise.
It Is What You Think It Is
Simply put, White Noise is white noise; ambient background sounds that help you to tune out aural distractions so you can focus on work, or sleep better.
This is the way white noise was meant to be. Can you say Cover Flow? Flick to the right or left and select background sounds based upon the album art-like images. Waves for waves. Beach for beach sounds. Windmills for fans. It doesn’t get easier to set up and use white noise on a Mac.
The list of background sounds numbers into the dozens and ranges from airplane to rain, chimes to frogs, heartbeat to shower, train to wind and everything in between. There’s even clothes dryer and vacuum cleaner and hair dryer.
White Noise is more than background sounds, though. It’s also a full featured digital clock and timer with sound alarms (that fade in and out slowly). If you’re a MacBook owner, this one app might be a good reason to bring your Mac into the bedroom. Sounds, clock, timer. Add to it a good internet radio station and you wouldn’t have a need for an alarm clock radio.
You’ll spend more money on a trip to Starbucks. Nicely done with rave reviews.
