You don’t need Photoshop Elements to enhance photos on your Mac when iPhoto doesn’t do the job. LiveQuartz gives you 13 photo effects tools for $1.99 (which works out to about 15-cents each).
This handy app is part of a trend among Mac App Store apps. Plenty of features, low price. In this case, you get more than you pay for. LiveQuartz uses the Mac’s built-in image tools to give you non-destructive layers where you can apply filters to enhance the original image without damaging anything.
The tools are straightforward and easy enough to master, though trial and error will be your friend.
What you get for 15-cents each are the most basic of photo or image enhancement tools. Brush. Drawing tools. Erase. Gradients. A text tool. Layer moving tool. Background eraser (worth the price alone). Filter effects. A selection tool, lasso, and hand (I said they’re basic tools), and a magnifying glass.
Combined you get plenty of non-destructive options to apply to whatever image or photo you have (LiveQuartz handles most popular image file formats.
But this isn’t Photoshop Elements for $1.99. It’s limited, but functional, yet gets good reviews from Mac users who note the quality and speed is substantial, even if some effects are limited.
