The most notable trend in software so far in the 21st century has to do with the price of applications. It started with the iPhone App Store where developers cranked out quality apps with plenty of features for a dollar or two. With the launch of the Mac App Store developers have followed that same trend. Good apps, low prices. That business model may not be sustainable, but in the meantime you get to use apps such as Whirl FX Pro.
Yes, this is yet another inexpensive Mac photo enhancement app that is simply a bargain. It comes with dozens of effects, filters, frames, and borders that quickly turn a bland photo into a colorful work of art.
Many photo enhancement apps are complicated and require a steeper learning curve. Whirl FX Pro is mostly self explanatory.
Load up a photo, select a filter for specific effects, and use the sidebar slider controls to adjust.
Most of the effects, filters, and tools are similar to what you’d find in other, usually more expensive Mac photo enhancement apps. You can apply multiple effects at one time which means a nearly infinite variety of options.
All the effects can be saved as presets and used again on other photos. Surprisingly, Whirl FX Pro handles image resolution up to 40 megapixels, including RAW. And, of course, finished creations can be saved in the standard JPG, PNG, TIFF, or BMP file formats, or shared on Facebook and Twitter.
Another thing I like about it is the lack of floating palettes. Photoshop it’s not. All the controls and options fit into one window which makes editing much easier and faster for those of us who don’t slave over a hot keyboard all day. This is really a decent app considering the price tag.
