When it comes to graphic designers, there’s an old adage. ‘You can never have too many fonts.’ Likewise, with iPhone users who love photo enhancement apps, ‘You can never have too many textures, filters, and effects.‘ The latest to grace the multiple photo enhancement folders on my iPhone is Mextures. No, it’s not a textures app from Mexico, but it does have a very large assortment of textures.
Gritty and grainy film textures, grunge and gradients, dusty vintage film scans that were actually created from 35mm film scans on various cameras, and from natural elements. It’s an iPhone app, so, simply select a photo, add a texture, and it’s applied almost instantly.
Mextures comes with over 70 original textures to apply to photos. Here’s the kicker. Each texture can be applied to a layer but you can stack layers to create blending effects.
Texture layers can be moved, hidden, rotated, and opacity changed in realtime. And it’s not just a long list of edits where you have to undo everything to make a change. Edits can be made at any time without using undo.
Custom edits can be saved for future use on different photos.
A custom edit is called a Formula, and Mextures comes with dozes of additional custom Formulas so you can see how it’s done.
The focus here is on textures rather than the standard vanilla photo filters and effects, but it’s difficult to beat the price and Mextures is worthy of a place in your iPhone’s Photo folders. It gets plenty of five star reviews for a reason. It’s a good value.
