Apple’s iBeacon is taking off and already has nearly 200-million potential users. Anthony Wing Kosner:
There is no real large-scale execution of the technology to speak of yet. Apple has played this feature down because as far as this holiday season is concerned iBeacons are only just kicking in. That big announcement that Apple made that iBeacons would greet you in Apple Stores for the Holidays? A visit to my local yesterday revealed that they haven’t been working for the last few days.
An iDevice user has to jump through a few hoops to enable iBeacon, and then actively check the iPhone for messages. I tried it in the Waikiki Apple Store this weekend. For now, it’s much ado over not much.
