Nissan’s latest flagship was launched in Smyrna, TN. It’s the bigger and badder Maxima– just in time for a drop in big car sales. Erik Schelzig:
At a ceremony at Nissan’s sprawling plant in suburban Nashville, company officials emphasized more aggressive exterior and interior design, sportier handling and a 300 horsepower engine averaging 30 miles per gallon.
The introduction of the redesigned model comes amid decreasing sales trends for large sedans. While large cars made up 5 percent of the U.S. new car market in 2000, they had dropped to just 2 percent of the market last year.
Note that Nissan’s Altima model more closely resembles the size and package of previous Maxima models.
