Photo collages are all the rage for iPhone users, and the iTunes App Store must have over 100 photo collage apps. There are plenty to choose from on the Mac App Store, too, but this new one caught my eye because it lets you drag and drop both photos and videos in the collage frames.
It’s called, appropriately enough, PhotoVideoCollage Pro, and it comes with an option to add background music. Start by choosing a layout. There are more than 70 in the app, easily accessible from the lefthand sidebar. Then, just grab photos or videos or both and drop them onto the photo collage frames and position as needed.
Editing options are many, including the ability to setup a specified frame size, with color and curved edges– or, have no frame at all. It’s just as easy to drop in a text for the frame using the built-in designs.
Unusual for a collage app are the options for audio and video. Background music can also be dropped into PhotoVideoCollage, and the video can be trimmed to match the frame size, and to set whatever length you prefer.
This is closer to a pro-level media app with a bargain level price. The audio and video have their own volume controls. Video clips can be played simultaneously or sequentially.
As collage apps go, this one is different than most thanks to the options for audio and video clips, but most of us take photos and videos with our smartphones, so you’d expect to see AudioVideoCollage for iOS, too, right? Well, there is one and it’s free, but has a few in-app purchases for colors, textures, and layouts, or the whole shebang for less than $2.00.
The collage tools are easy to use, and the output is well differentiated from the dozens of other collage apps available for Mac, iPhone, and iPad. A wider mix of collage frame layouts would be a plus as most of those included are of the standard rectangular variety.
