Of the few hundred Mac apps and utilities I look at each year there are a handful that jump out as something special. Noizio is one such app. I prefer quiet while working on my Mac. That means no interruptions, no iTunes, no YouTube. Just me and my Mac and quiet; the only sound is the clattering of my keyboard.
Noizio is the exception and it’s free.
This is one of those Mac background sound apps which supposedly help you work better by introducing white noise or a blend of sounds to create a specific work or pleasure environment through sound.
Noizio does an excellent job of drowning out other noise but is not itself a distracting noise maker. That’s good for work, but if your Mac is connected to a good sound system then Noizio can also create an ambience of sounds with just the right blends of tools and controls.
Click on the icon in the Mac’s Menubar to view controls and options.
You get individual audio volume controls for 15 different ambient sounds so you can mix and match and blend a specific set of sounds to match your mood or locale, then save the mix to be played back later.
Noizio has a few typical background sounds, ranging from the white noise of Deep Space to October Rain, Thunderstorm, Sea waves, Wind chime, and others, but also includes a Paris Cafe, Sailing Yacht, Farm, Whales, and even an inside train.
The background sounds play in a smooth endless loop and Noizio can startup when your Mac starts. The audio equalizer is built-in so you can adjust audio for each background sound and save it to be played back later.
This is a very well done app that evokes everything good about the Mac, and it gets hundreds of five star reviews. Even better, there’s an iPhone and iPad version, and it’s free, too.
