Anybody remember the death of Moore’s Law? Investor Christoper Rolland on Intel’s latest chip revolution.
Intel has developed a miniaturized on-die version of their silicon photonics technology to be used as a super high-speed optical interconnect between a Xeon server CPU and an Altera FPGA. While Intel will change the name upon release, we are dubbing this technology “chip-scale photonics.” We understand that Intel has “proof of concept” silicon, is looking to improve today’s low yields, and that a commercialized product could be ready in as little as three to five years. This technology is nothing short of miraculous and we view it as a potential game changer for Intel and the semiconductor industry.
The technical details are fascinating but it also looks to add life to Intel’s stock.
