Kate MacKenzie says services and software don’t matter. Apple is a hardware company. But what about that rapidly growing Services group?
Yep, Services is one of Apple’s bright spots in an otherwise gloomy perspective. Or, so the story goes. Here’s the point that seems to be missed by those who analyze Apple’s financials. Services is nothing without Apple’s hardware sales.
There was a time when Apple charged for OS X and the iWork suite of apps came with a price tag. Those days are gone.
For Apple, it’s all about hardware. Most of the company’s software is free. Services exist only because Apple sells hardware. Ipso facto and Voila! Apple is a hardware company and to think or say anything to the contrary is foolish.
