It isn’t so much that an iPad Pro will replace the Mac (Apple sells more iPads than Macs by a large number), it’s that we are moving more and more functions away from the Mac to other mobile devices.
Barbara Marie Brannan explains how the iPad Pro is as the Mac was in 1984:
Can an iPad Pro replace your Mac? It depends. Do you drive a car? Or, do you drive a truck? Time marches forward. Macs are trucks. Mobile devices iconified by iPhone and iPad are cars. That means the new iPad Pro is the Mac of the future, and by that I mean it’s ‘the computer for the rest of us.’
A TV commercial for the Mac from decades ago could just as easily describe today’s iPad Pro.
A Mac can do many things an iPad Pro or iPhone cannot. Many Macs are more powerful and can do what no mobile device can do even now. But mobility and convenience rule the day. The new Mac– the computer for the rest of us— is an iPad Pro.
