The latest comes from Google, not Microsoft. Jeffrey Mincey has the scoop on a $999 Chromebook:
Unfortunately, even when compared to an aging MacBook Air at the same price or a slightly more expensive MacBook or MacBook Pro, the Pixelbook Chromebook comes up short for anything but using Google’s own anemic applications. A Mac runs macOS High Sierra which brings along iTunes, GarageBand, Photos, iMovie, Calendar, Reminders, Contacts, FaceTime, plus Skype and tens of thousands of applications like Photoshop and Lightroom or Final Cut Pro, most of which are more powerful and usable than anything on ChromeOS.
A MacBook Air does much more for the same price. I’m not sure what Google’s thinking is behind all these Pixel products. They don’t sell well.
