Jen King’s headline in Newsweek:
How Can I Stop Apple And Google Tracking My Movements? How To Change Phone Settings
Good tips, but changing the settings on an iPhone or Android smartphone will not prevent Google or Facebook from tracking you.
Technology companies have been pummeled by revelations about how poorly they protect their customers’ personal information
Facebook and Google. Not Apple. Only Apple is a technology company. The other two are advertising companies. Most people do not understand the tracking mechanisms in place.
They’ve intentionally obscured important details to build a multi-billion-dollar data economy based on an ethically questionable notion of informed consent.
Again, the culprit is more Google and Facebook than Apple. The headline includes “Apple” but the article’s premise is aimed at Google and Facebook. Not Apple.
