Ben Lovejoy nails it:
You never know whether an app setting is configured in the app, or in the separate Settings app
- If it can be set within the app, that’s should be how it’s done
- If it requires iOS permissions, the app should have a shortcut to the relevant Settings section
- Any time a setting is displayed on-screen within an app, it should be tappable
- Any time there are multiple entries for an app in Settings, there should always be a sub-heading summarising what that entry offers
Summary? Put settings in the same place on every app.
There should never be a time when the user is left wondering whether they should be looking in the app itself or in the Settings app; there should never be a time when someone is presented with multiple entries and has to guess which one to use; and there should most definitely never be a time when a user is left tapping on something which doesn’t respond when it clearly ought to.
