You might think that McDonald’s employees would see the handwriting on the wall. First, the in-restaurant kiosks where customers place their own orders. Then the McDonald’s app, and Uber eats (among others). Next, there will be voice recognition in the drive-thru lane.
The burger chain… is acquiring a Bay Area voice-recognition startup called Apprente, with an eye toward using it to take orders at drive-through windows.
